    Important Advocacy Update

The IIDA Delta Regional Chapter and the ASID South Central Chapter have been working together on monitoring various pieces of legislation that have been introduced in Baton Rouge that affect the interior design industry. At the top of our priority list is HB 632, which would have repealed the interior design registration law.  Last week, the bill sponsor, Representative Julie Emerson, graciously met with a group of interior designers on HB 632.  After hearing more about the interior design industry, she agreed to not have her bill heard this session, averting our most current and pressing threat in Louisiana.  In addition to HB 632, our lobbyists are also actively watching another of Representative Emerson’s bills, HB 562, the Occupational Licensing Review Act.  We are committed to continuing to educate the state legislature about what interior designers do and why our registration law is important for the profession in Louisiana.  We encourage you to stay informed of our advocacy efforts by texting “interior design” to 52886 or signing up to receive alerts.  If you have any additional questions or want to get involved in our advocacy efforts please contact Heidi Meibaum, IIDA, at or Cassandra Aalgaard, Allied ASID, at
