"Homeless dogs and cats have relocated to Companion Animal Alliance's brand-new shelter, a space that is more suited for them and better for the community. On Gourrier Avenue land donated by LSU, the shelter features a classroom to train fosters and volunteers, better air quality, natural light, climate-controlled kennels, innovative veterinary equipment, expanded quarantine and treatment areas, an enhanced equine pasture, a disaster relief shelter and a dog park. CAA has boosted the save rate from 20% to 75% since it took over the parish shelter seven years ago.

With assistance from the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, CAA raised $12.75 million in private funds to build the new shelter."

The design was heavily influenced by CAA's specific needs and was researched to provide the healthiest and safest environment for these animals. Baton Rouge IIDA member, Elizabeth Laborde, who is very involved with CAA and remained close to the design process will be guiding our tour of the facility along with CAA staff members.

All participants are welcome to bring donations for the local shelter. Clean, new or gently used towels are GREAT or you may fulfill any items from their Amazon wish list.  Click here to view wish list.

Maybe you’ll even leave with a new, furry friend!?
